APAO 2025 Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair &
AIOS Scientific Committee Chair

  Issue 11 - March 2025

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my pleasure and honor to welcome each one of you to the 40th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in conjunction with the 83rd Annual Conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) held in the beautiful city of New Delhi from April 3 to 6, 2025.

This event will be hosted at the state-of-the-art convention center, which is also one of the largest convention centers in the Asia-Pacific region: Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC) at New Delhi.

A wonderful scientific program has been designed by Prof. Dennis LAM which is comprehensive and has luminaries not only from the Asia-Pacific region but also globally. The theme of the Congress is aptly “Transcending Beyond Boundaries”, as we truly have “World Ophthalmology Face to Face” with 654+ international faculty. The program not only targets the general or comprehensive ophthalmologists but also the subspecialists.

The Congress offers wonderful opportunities for networking, collaboration, and building long-lasting professional relationships. In addition to this, our primary focus will be on advancing ophthalmic education. This prestigious, large-scale conference brings together ophthalmologists from over 76 countries, featuring an extensive scientific program. There are 650 plus international speakers from 76 countries and 34 international societies. Attendees will also have the opportunity to engage in innovative and dynamic platforms such as video sessions, interactive kiosks, Teachers of Tomorrow, the Ophthalmic Quiz, as well as specialized hands-on courses like Technical Skill Transfer Courses, Diagnostic Skill Transfer Courses, and Surgical Skills Transfer Courses. The key highlights of the conference include Eye Sustainability, Run for Vision, and the engaging Young Ophthalmologist Sessions. I warmly invite you to contribute your expertise, connect with global leaders, and be part of groundbreaking advancements that will shape the future of Ophthalmology.

As you engage in thought-provoking scientific sessions, I invite you to also experience the country's rich history, exquisite cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes, ensuring a truly unforgettable visit. India, a land of vibrant cultural heritage and remarkable diversity, is proud to host this prestigious event.

My sincere gratitude to Prof. Rajvardhan AZAD, for helping to get the conference to India. This would not have been possible without the efforts of Past Presidents Prof. Mahipal SACHDEV, Prof. S NATARAJAN, Dr. Santhan GOPAL & Dr. Ajit Babu MAJJI for getting the conference to India.

My sincere gratitude to Dr. Lalit VERMA, the Congress President, for his dedication, meticulous planning encouragement at all parts. My thanks to Dr. Harbansh LAL, Organizing Chairman who has given brilliant ideas and helped to solve most difficult tasks. Dr. Samar BASAK, AIOS President has stood rock solid behind in all my endeavor. I acknowledge the contribution of Dr. Partha BISWAS, incoming President, and Dr. J S TITIYAL, Vice President of AIOS. My sincere thanks to Dr. Santosh HONAVAR, Secretary General of AIOS, and Dr. Manoj MATHUR, Treasurer of AIOS - the dynamic duo, for supporting and helping at each step of the conference organization.

The leadership of APAO – President Prof. Ava HOSSAIN has always stood by me and inspired me to do my best. I am thankful to Prof. Clement THAM (Secretary General & CEO) and Dr. Kenneth FONG (Treasurer) without whose active participation this would not have been possible.

I would also like to recognize the outstanding efforts of the Delhi Ophthalmological Society Local Organizing Committee. Special thanks to Prof. Rohit SAXENA, Prof. Rajesh SINHA, Dr. Prafulla MAHARANA, and Prof. Kirti SINGH, whose planning, supported by the AIOS Managing Committee and Past Presidents, have made everything possible.

With warmest regards,

Prof. (Dr.) Namrata SHARMA

To keep you abreast of the latest arrangements of our scientific sessions, we have updated a series of Presenters’ Guidelines.
